Saskatchewan Car Insurance

Do you live in Saskatchewan and recently purchased a vehicle? Every vehicle owner is required by law to purchase car insurance. There are two types of car insurance that you can buy in Saskatchewan.

Minimum car insurance

Once you register your vehicle, you are required by law to purchase a minimum car insurance. This mandatory minimum car insurance can only be bought from the government-owned Saskatchewan Government Insurance.

Coverage

With the minimum car insurance, the policy has a max coverage of $200,000 for a legal settlement against you and additional of up to $10,000 for property damage.

For the other coverages in the policy, these will depend on the no-fault and tort systems. For instance, under the no-fault system, an injured person is entitled to a maximum of $5,741,827 to cover for medical bills. While in the tort system, entitlement amounts to a maximum of $22,445 for medical bills and a reimbursement amounting to a maximum of $168,382. If you were injured in the accident, under the no-fault system, you are entitled to 90% of your income up to a maximum of $67,762 per year. Under the tort system, you are entitled to $17,576 per year for total disability and $8,788 for partial disability up to one year. There are many differences in coverages between the no-fault and tort systems. And if you find these policies lacking in coverage, you can always purchase an optional car insurance from any private insurance company

Optional car insurance

The optional car insurance has many additional coverages based on what you need. You can have additional coverage for collision, vandalism, theft, and many others.
